Ultra D Day Trail - June 12th & 13th 2014
A HUMAN ADVENTURE, A HISTORIC TERRITORY
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landing in Normandy and to recognize the 7 countries that participated , a team of 2 athletes representing the military members of each countries have been selected to complete the 100 Milkes journey.
The 100 miles’ D DAY ULTRA TRAIL will run along the great historical places of June 6th 1944 landings, most notably passing through the five great beaches: Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach and Sword Beach.
The D DAY ULTRA TRAIL is not a competitive race. This running will gather 7 athletes and 7 soldiers who will start and end the race together, hand in hand.
The runners will have to stop at " checkpoints ": 14 places of high historical value that fit perfectly in the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the landing.
The ACU has selected 2 athletes to represent Canada. One of the criterias to be selected was to have been past or present member of the Canadian Armed Forces, and obvioustly being able to cover the 100 Miles distance.
Jason Loutitt and Major Bruce Barteaux will be representing Canada at this historic celebration. Jason has been a member of the military in the past and Bruce is still serving with over 35 years in the military.
